We are looking for casual part-time writers to join the team and blog about our events.
Whirlygig Cinema is an initiative that promotes emerging film talent through fun and informative short film events. Our events act as a tool for filmmakers to get their work seen, whilst offering audiences the chance to discover exciting new filmmaking talent in an intimate and relaxed environment. Our film programmes are varied, memorable and engaging, and we aim to nurture audience-filmmaker interaction by incorporating talks, Q&As and networking wherever possible.
We currently run a monthly short film night called Spotlights, which offers filmmakers the chance to discuss their work in public. At each event, three emerging filmmakers are given just 30 minutes each to screen and talk about their films, providing a gripping insight into their background, ideas and filmmaking process. At the end of the night they take part in a Q&A with all three filmmakers.
Spotlights has been running since 2012, but over the years we have found that the discussions have become increasingly significant, so we have started documenting them to share with a wider audience. Following each event we have started publishing articles on our website, summarising the conversations that took place and any interesting topics that came up.
You should have a passion for writing and a keen interest in film and events. You should also have a knack for summarising key information and engaging the reader through your writing.
You will be required to attend selected events, estimated between about 4 and 6 events in a year. There may also be opportunities to attend other film nights and review them for our blog, to strengthen ties with the filmmaking and film exhibition communities.
Where and when:
Events take place at Hackney Attic (part of Hackney Picturehouse, 270 Mare Street, London, E8 1HE) on the first Wednesday of every month until April 2014.
Please note Whirlygig Cinema is not-for-profit, so this role is expenses only. You will receive free tickets to all Whirlygig Cinema events, with the possibility of attending third-party events from time to time. If you are interested, please send us an email with a brief statement (250 words maximum) about why you would like to join our team, and links to any relevant blog posts you have written.
